I started the New Year with such great intentions and energy. The pregnancy wasn’t too burdensome yet, but then the stomach flu hit our house, followed shortly thereafter by bad colds. We all seem to be recovering now, and are just trying to get back on track. The twins will be here before we know it and there is still so much to do . . . not to mention our big financial plans for 2017, continuing on our journey to financial semi-independence.
Sorry about the blog being pretty quiet over the last couple of weeks. What can I say? I haven’t been exactly myself lately. Understandably, there is a lot on my mind, but the fact that twins are on their way is only part of the reason for my sense of being overwhelmed. Being a married, working mom comes with many pressures and responsibilities. In addition, there are all of our ambitious plans for the future. I’ve made some recent mistakes too – not huge ones, but significant enough to cost us some time and/or money. Money and time, such valuable commodities. I know that you can’t win all of the time, but it helps when the losses are more scattered. Anyways, here are some updates on the Smith family’s adventures over the past month or so.
We typically plan our road trips to Maine for the end of August. They represent one of our last chances to enjoy the summer season. Now, with pumpkins everywhere and leaves changing color, it’s time to come to terms with the fact that Fall is here. Summer is definitely my favorite season, so I tend to get a little sad when we put all of our sunshine accessories away. Although somewhat there, these feelings are not that strong just yet. It might be due to the fact that it’s still pretty warm and we’re not yet trapped inside by mountains of snow. However, I think it’s also because we packed so much fun into the past few months and have a lot to look forward to with the changing seasons.
Isn’t it crazy that July is almost over already? Thankfully, we’ve been making the most of the summer season and still have a lot of fun planned for August. Our financial journey usually plays some role in our day-to-day life, but I’ve been trying to be mindful of taking time to enjoy the present as well. I think we’re doing a pretty good job of saving, hustling, and enjoying the summer.
Wow, it feels like forever ago since my last post. An extremely demanding work project came up at the same time that I was helping my sister prepare for her wedding. I’m happy to report that all is well in the Smith household and we had a wonderful time celebrating with family and friends. Now, it’s time to get back to frugal living, blogging, and hustling our way out of debt.
As time goes on, you begin to adopt new priorities. The phases you went through before, start to become different versions of yourself, not quite individual characters, but more like varying shades of you. I’ve been thinking about the past a lot, and how much I’ve changed in just a couple of years. I’m sure that past-me would be really confused if allowed just a brief glimpse of what present-me has been up to.
The main purpose of this site is to document our journey out of debt and to financial semi-independence, so it should be no surprise that this update has a lot to do with money. We’re continuing to keep our expenses super low, while finding new ways to increase the amount of money coming in. I’m really motivated by our latest successes and working hard to find some semblance of balance between hustling for the future and living in the present.
