Family Road Trips: Exploring The World Together

Few things in life offer families a unique bonding opportunity the way road trips do, and seeing as this year one in three Americans will be on the road (the highest ever recorded) it’s safe to say most Americans would agree. Finding a great destination, planning out all the stops and staying within a predetermined budget may seem daunting, yet it is still possible to go on a quality family road trip on a family-friendly budget. With a bit of research and ingenuity, you can piece together a road trip that will create lasting memories for your whole family.

Choosing Your Destination

Americans are on the move, roaming across the country on road trips, but where are they going? Well, nearly half of our compatriots are traveling to national parks, taking in the natural beauty and awe-inspiring scenery that can only truly be appreciated in person. America boasts a total of 59 national parks, making it a very accessible destination for most everyone, and free resources such as online travel guides make picking and planning a trip to your local national park easy.

Theme parks are also a popular choice for road trip destinations as well as warmer states, large metropolitan areas and national monuments, but no matter your destination it is always best to take some precautionary steps before starting your journey.

Your Vehicle Must Be Roadworthy

It is very important that you make it a priority to prepare your vehicle. Check all fluids, tires and brakes. Make sure you take all the tools you’ll need such as snow chains and shovels if needed, and bring toys and snacks for the little ones. First aid kits are a necessity on long road trips, and make sure to check the weather forecast for your destination before traveling. Checklists for road trips are a handy tool to help ensure your vehicle is roadworthy.

On the other hand if you choose to rent in order to spare you vehicle the wear and tear, make sure to pick a car or truck that is appropriate for the journey and terrain you will traverse. Most would prefer a larger vehicle, but you may choose differently. Thankfully, because of the digital age it’s easier to compare vehicles online before deciding. Choose wisely.

The Beauty of Your Surroundings

Most agree sunsets are beautiful, but have you ever seen the sunset while traveling along the coast of California? Have you ever crossed the 7 Mile Bridge in Florida on your way to the Everglades? America is full of natural beauty and architectural wonders that can be appreciated from the comfort of your car. After you choose a destination and vehicle, plan your route using a scenic map to get the most out of your drive, and in fact you may even be tempted to stop and take in the all the beauty.

Careful planning and preparation will ensure a memorable trip for your family. Road trips are an opportunity for your family to explore the world and help deepen the bonds with your loved ones. Always feel free to stop and enjoy the moment, appreciating every single member of your family while the universe provides the gorgeous natural backdrop to your newly formed, life long memories.

  1. Walking on the grass together, exploring new places, going for a swim in the sea, having a laugh at a joke over lunch — these are things families enjoy doing when they are together during vacations. This kind of relaxed time that parents share with children, creates everlasting bonds.

  2. My wife and I are hoping to surprise our 3 children with a surprising vacation this year. We’ve been couped up for a long time in quarantine due to the Covid pandemic. It was interesting to read about how 1/2 of Americans going out on road trips will visit national parks. I’d love to find a great hotel that’s close to a national park so we can get outside for fun hiking adventures.
